They say that history repeats itself. When I was in college many years ago, I did a paper on Nazi Germany. I wondered how a nation that was so well educated could be so easily hijacked to lose a sense of what was morally right. I guess it starts out simple enough where we allow one group to hate another, and to dehumanize that group through images that distort the truth. Hate is easy to sell.
It was a small minority of people that took control of a nation such as Germany. I believe that our next president has to be extraordinary in the sense that he or she needs to be able to understand history, and have a full grasp on the ideology of these new mass murderers. As we see it only takes a handful to corrupt the many, and thanks to this current administrations arrogance and short sightedness we have allowed this new Theocratical-facism to grow. There's no difference in the Extremist's agenda (they use religion as their rallying call) then the Nazi's who used the idea of nationality as their new religion, and we see what came of that.
My opinion is that I don't believe in a notion of moderate Muslims. This doesn't mean that I believe that all Muslims are Extremist's. However, they're just as susceptible to coersion as the population in Germany. After-all if they don't agree they'll be murdered just as well. So I think the outcome is inescapable.
I'm also concerned that we're just as fragile in this country. This last Congress should not have bowed down to this administration. It's supposed to be three "co-equal" branches of government. The Executive Branch doesn't have the right to assign more powers unto itself. However, this Congress was frighteningly too passive, and shows how easily we can be co-opted by a strong personality carrying the banner of Party solidarity. Our elected Officials have placed party loyalty over what's best for their constituents and the country.
Senators Clinton, and McCain lack the ability to see the bigger picture. When you devise a foreign policy strategy it has to encompass a historical perspective as well as insight to possible casual effects. Something this current administration lacked. To put it simply "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."
